01 — Finish

One surface, no joints

Microcement is a mineral floor and wall finish with a matte concrete look. No joints where crumbs remain or grease settles — one continuous surface, hand-applied with a trowel.

Available in 50+ standard colours, plus bespoke in NCS, RAL and RAL Design.

For heavy-duty kitchen floors we recommend our Lavasteen Seamless Floor — thicker, more hard-wearing, waterproof even when damaged.

02 — Applications

From worktop to outdoor kitchen

Microcement goes beyond floor and wall. A microcement worktop provides a seamless, joint-free workspace — no joints around the sink where dirt collects. On a splashback behind the hob, the surface can be wiped clean in one pass.

Outdoors too: a BBQ counter or outdoor kitchen worktop around a Big Green Egg remains matte, mineral and heat-resistant with the correct PU finish. For worktops and outdoor kitchen surfaces we apply additional layers of filling PU topcoat — for protection against cooking splashes, heat and outdoor conditions.

Why microcement in a kitchen

A kitchen is a workspace. Splashes, drops and scuff damage are part of daily use — and that requires a finish that withstands such wear without quickly looking shabby. Microcement with PU topcoat is suitable for this on walls (splashback, feature) and, when properly finished, on floors in light to medium-duty kitchen situations.

Splashback without joints

Behind the hob and worktop, microcement is a strong choice. No tile joints where grease and residue creep in — a smooth, mineral surface that you wipe clean in one pass. Can continue around sockets and light switches if you choose.

Floor in a light to medium-duty kitchen

For open-plan kitchens and family kitchens, microcement on the floor is a workable option. Two to three layers of PU topcoat provide wear resistance against sliding chairs, dropped cutlery and daily splashes. For commercial kitchens or heavy hospitality use we recommend Lavasteen Seamless Floor as a more durable alternative.

Colour choice in kitchen lighting

A kitchen typically has bright task lighting above the worktop and softer light in the dining area. A microcement floor or wall appears differently in both lighting situations — always test with colour samples in the location where you want to see it. We visit for a site survey so we can advise the right shade based on your lighting conditions.

Maintenance suits daily use

Daily wiping with a damp cloth and a neutral cleaner suffices. No scouring pads, no aggressive degreasers — these can eventually damage the PU topcoat. Stains from red wine or tomato sauce can be removed with ordinary soapy water, provided they are noticed within a reasonable time.

Frequently asked

What customers ask us beforehand

Can microcement be applied over an existing kitchen floor?
Yes. We first treat the existing floor: degrease, prime, fill joints, then fully level. No demolition required — saving considerable time and cost during renovation.
How hard-wearing is a microcement kitchen floor?
With two to three coats of PU topcoat, microcement is suitable for residential kitchen-diners and family kitchens. For commercial hospitality or intensive use, we recommend Lavasteen Seamless Floor as a more durable alternative.
What if something hard is dropped on the floor?
A dropped plate or pan rarely causes more than a slight indentation or scratch mark. Microcement can be hand-repaired — we can repair it locally, and the transition is usually barely visible thanks to the matte finish.
Will I get exactly the colour I want?
Yes. Choose from 50+ standard colours or bespoke shades in NCS, RAL or RAL Design. Always test with colour samples in your own kitchen first — daylight and cabinetry influence colour perception.
How long does installation take?
Depending on surface area, typically 2 to 3 days, including drying times between coats.
How do I clean microcement?
Daily wipe with a damp cloth and pH-neutral cleaner. No scouring pads or aggressive degreasers — these can damage the PU topcoat.
