Applying Lavasteen Seamless Floor
for floor and wall.
This guide helps you step by step with applying a seamless floor using Lavasteen Seamless Floor for floor and wall. Through proper preparation, careful application of primer and finish, and good aftercare, you'll achieve a durable and stylish result.
The foundation for a Lavasteen Seamless Floor
Good preparation is essential. Without a flat and dry substrate, the Lavasteen Seamless Floor finish cannot adhere optimally. A good start is crucial for successfully applying a seamless floor.
Check the substrate
Check with a moisture meter whether the substrate is dry enough. Ensure that the substrate is:
- Level and flat
- Free from cracks
- Sufficiently dry (always check)
- Uniformly absorbent
Note: tiled walls absorb unevenly (grout vs. glaze). Therefore, pre-treat them according to the technical guidelines.
Applying primer on floor or wall
For applying the primer, use a pile roller. Then choose the correct method depending on the substrate. This forms the first step in applying a seamless floor.
- Absorbent: dilute the primer 1:3 with water.
- Non-absorbent: use the primer undiluted and apply lightly with a cloth.
Allow the primer to dry for 1 day; ventilation accelerates the process.
Application in three steps
Step 1 — Prepared working
- Wear gloves and safety goggles.
- Mask the edges carefully.
- Remove tape immediately after applying Lavasteen Seamless Floor.
Step 2 — Applying Lavasteen Seamless Floor to floor and wall
When applying a seamless floor or wall with Lavasteen Seamless Floor, you work in multiple layers. First you mix the components, then you apply the first and second coat.
Mixing components
- Mix component A thoroughly.
- Then add component B.
Ratio: 650 g A + 65 g B per m² (10:1).
First layer — the base
- Apply thinly with a trowel, playfully or evenly.
- For a sleek effect, repeat the same technique in the second layer.
Alternative: work wet-on-wet:
- Apply the first coat roughly.
- After 45–60 minutes, apply a tight second coat for a lively effect.
Second coat — the finish
- Wait 24 hours between two thin coats.
- Use a trowel and optionally a plant spray for a cloud effect.
- Work with a flexible trowel and maintain the grain thickness.
Tip: mist with water after 30–60 minutes for extra depth.
Sanding (optional)
- Use a sander with extraction.
- In the bathroom: sand briefly for anti-slip.
- In living room or kitchen: sand longer for a smooth result.
- If desired, you can apply multiple PU coats. This creates extra protection and smoothness.
Step 3 — PU topcoat for protection
The PU topcoat finally provides protection against yellowing. The milky white layer dries transparent and matt, ideal as the final step when applying Lavasteen Seamless Floor.
Coverage: 80 g A + 16 g B per m² (ratio 5:1).
Application
- Mix electrically for 2 minutes.
- Apply wet-on-wet with a nylon roller.
- Roll dry afterwards for an even finish.
Note: layers that are too thick remain white.
Second (or third) PU coat
- Wait 3–4 hours between coats (maximum 48 hours).
- Wear hospital shoe covers to keep the floor clean.
- Use a hairnet when applying in kitchen or bathroom.
Maintenance tips for daily use
- Clean stains immediately — so do not let water, coffee or spices soak in.
- Do not cover the floor in the first 7 days after applying PU.
- Curing time: the PU topcoat needs 7 days to fully cure.
